Shabby chic, rustic interior décor and jewellery is very popular at the moment. But rather than buy from fast homeware/mass produced goods stores, there are lots of twine string projects you can create at home. Not only are these DIY craft projects fun, by using sustainably sourced twine string they are more ethical, environmentally friendly and cost effective too.
Today we explore 6 trendy and fun things you can create with twine string that anyone can do.
1. Twine string bracelets
Use colourful beads, buttons or found objects to create on-trend bracelets. Layer the bracelets for a fun effect and mix and match on different days.
Simply thread the object on the twine and knot on each side of the object. You can then tie the end for a cool bracelet. This Dharma Door thick hemp twine would be perfect for the task.
2. Braided twine placemat and coasters
Make bespoke, natural looking placemats and coasters that will wow guests.

You will need
- Felt
- Marker
- Scissors
- Rope twine
- Hot glue gun
- Glue sticks
- Dinner plate
Instructions
- Trace around a dinner plate onto felt, using your marker and cut around the traced line, leaving a dinner plate round shape of felt.
- Hot glue the string in a coil around the felt, starting in the centre
- When you’ve finished coiling and hot-gluing, cut the end and fringes on the sides.

3. Christmas ornaments
It couldn’t be easier to make gorgeous rustic ornaments for the tree. You could even use these to decorate all year round. Simply wrap any bauble in twine and glue as you go.

4. Gift wrap gift tags

5. String art

6. Macrame
Everything 1970’s is stylish again. Think grass or coir matting, mid century furniture and of course Macramé.
Some beautiful things you can make out of twine include macramé wall hangings, dreamcatchers and plant holders. There are many helpful YouTube video tutorials for creating macrame with twine.
